Ideally, family room and living on the sunny side, and the kitchen/bath/
dinning on the other side. But family room was not so popular decades ago.
So, if it's added later during a remodeling, chances are the orientation
will be awkward.

The older houses were built without a family room. You know, people really
sit down at the dining table, all the silverware and candles stuff. Maybe
some music, but definitely no TV allowed. Such life styles don't allow a
family room.
Family room become popular only when people get more casual at home :) I
think the transition started in 70's, by the end of last century, it's
widely accepted. |

by a study room, music room or library at the place where living room was.
