eave, I can reach them on a ladder (one story) without climbing up to the
roof. The valley is covered in closed-cut style.
Questions:
Is it suitable for DIY?
Usually there is a layer of roofing roll under shingles. After tearing old
shingles, there will be holes left by roof nails. Do I need to patch them?
If yes, by what method?
Are there any suggested readings/books?

发帖数: 851 | 2 You need to tear down shingles entirely. Before you do that you need to
loose nearby shingles so you can get the under player part off. Then you can
buy a piece of shingle from HD and put it back to replace the old one. You
need to use roof nail to tighten shingles. And use roof chulck covering
nails.

However, what you mentioned here is about regular area, i.e. flat surface.
That's much easier.
I read quite a few articles and realized roof valleys are different.For
close-cut valleys, shingles are nailed on surface A, crossing the valley and
nailed down with two more nails on surface B.Those shingles are then
covered by the shingles laid on surface B. Shingles on the top need to be
trimmed at the top corner, cut at the valley center, and sealed with roof
cement. Also,no nails are allowed with 6 inches from the valley.
It seems complicated because to tear off an old shingle, not only two
shingles above that one, but also the shingle on the other side of the
valley need to be manipulated. | s*******y
发帖数: 851 | 4 It may be a little bit more complex than the rest of the roof. But the basic
is the same. I had to loose several shingles nearby to replace one bad
shingle. If the valley is not long you may want to just replace all the
singles. You can do it if you know what you suppose to do. At the end you
can do a better job than most of the contractors unless you know a really
good one.
