Job Description:
General
Participate as part of a dynamic team in the engineering analysis, condition
assessment and life prediction of piping, boiler, turbine/generator and
auxiliary equipment used in electric fossil generating stations. The
position requires the individual to develop the skills to manage and
coordinate the technical and administrative aspects of the work. They are
expected to actively participate in both internal and external training and
development programs.
Technical
* Assist senior staff with evaluations related to design, life
assessment and root cause failure analysis of pressure vessels and other
power plant equipment.
* Perform thermal heat transfer, fluid dynamics and structural stress
analysis of pressure vessels, piping systems, rotating equipment and other
plant structures using both classic and finite element analysis methods.
* Develop a working knowledge of fatigue, corrosion and high temperature
creep damage mechanisms and fracture mechanics concepts employed for
serviceability assessment of damaged or flawed components.
* Gain broad experience with materials, welding and nondestructive
examination techniques.
* Assist with field inspections of fossil-fueled power plant equipment.
* Assist with the preparation of written technical reports and
presentations.
Business Development
* Be familiar with SI clients and learn SI business development process.
* Be aware of new business opportunities and work with senior staff to
pursue as appropriate.
Internal Processes
* Learn and implement all applicable standard SI policies and procedures.
* Perform all work in accordance with SI’s Commercial Quality
Procedures and with an acute awareness of client requests.
Project Management
* Support project managers in execution of large scale projects.
* Develop the skills to independently manage small scale projects.
* Ensure quality and enhance job skills by seeking peer review and
appraisal.
* Be financially responsible and adhere to company guidelines with
respect to expenses,purchases and project execution.
Travel
The position requires some travel. The typical trip duration typically
ranges from 1 day to 2 weeks with most being completed in 5 days.
Historically, the heaviest travel during occurs during March, April, October
, and November. Travel is primarily domestic with occasional international
trips.
Preferred Skills:
* B. S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering
* ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Design Experience is a plus.
* Knowledge of SolidWorks CAD software, ANSYS FE software and general
fracture mechanics concepts is a plus.
* Computer Programming experience is a plus.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential, as well
as a working knowledge of
computer software including Microsoft Office.
* Successful completion of the Fundamentals in Engineering (FE)
examination is a plus | o******n
