what is the built-in voltage? Is it necessary?

What kind of sandwich do you want to make? Of course it is an important value.
Seems 17% is the highest conversion for current solar cell.
I remember some days ago, you wrote a proposal about solar cell. Did you get
the funding for it? What is your goal? 20% or 50%? or Cheaper process?

I think Vbi comes from the Fermi energy difference between P-layer and N-layer
of the solar cell. This thing is the maximum Voc for your solar cell. Is it
not important? What about you get cell having 0.0001mV as the maximum Voc. It
is non-use.

Currently, the highest power efficiency is around 33% (tested at NREL). It is
a tandem cell with three junctions. The highest efficiency was achieved at 300
suns (AM1.5). It is certainly true that the built-in potential of inorganic
p-n junction cell sets the maximum limit for Voc. But this is not true for
organic cell. Even for symmetrical organic cells sandwiched between two
identical electrodes, the Voc will not be zero. Brian Gregg wrote an excellent
review paper on this topic. (JPC B, 2003,
