自从1964年证明不变子空间失败后，De Branges并没有气馁，
他后来说：“当时这个方向还很少有人去做，我是领袖人物之
一，我的工作并没有被承认，我唯一摆脱这种处境的方法就是
拼命工作”，1970年，De Branges宣布他又证明了Peterson
猜想，不幸的是这次证明中又出现了错误，不久，Deligne把
它作为weil猜想的一个推论推导出来
从此De Branges彻底身败名裂，他得不到经费支持，没有人邀
请他参加专业讨论会，甚至在Purdue大学它只能靠教大一微积
分来糊口，De Branges的妻子1972年与他离婚，他觉得De Br-
anges应该去做一些应用数学，而不是去攻这些没%
