block 2 question 34
A 52yo man is found to have hypertension during a routine examination. A sys
tolic bruit is heard over the lft renal artery. Angiography shows a discrete
95% obstructive lesion within the left renal artery; the right renal artery
is normal. The right kidney is 11cm, and the left is 8.5cm. Which of the fo
llowing describes the most likely response to the treatment?
A) Decresed plasma renin activity and decreased serum angiotensin I concentr

loop diuretics will decrease blood volumn and decrease RBF which will
increase the activity of both renin and ACE.
ACEI will increase renin also by blocking the negative feedback.
I remember that ACEI is contraindicated if there are stenosis on BOTH sides
of renal artery.
I think if we dilate the obstructed left renal artery by percutaneous
transluminal renal angioplasty, the BP and renin will drop.
