How can you get in a residency in psychiatry?
1. Passion for psychiatry. All the program directors look for your passion
for psychiatry. State your passion in your personal statement, do
observership, clerkship, volunteering in psychiatric unit in hospital or
psychiatric clinic.
2. English level. In the reference letters, your excellent English level
should be in these letters.
3. Cultural issues. Chinese culture is different from American culture. For
example, keep eye contact, keep smiling when talking with your colleagues,
understand your patients, express your empathy, etc.
Be honest, I am still struggling with my weakness of English and cultural
issues. So my recommendation is to get in a psychiatric unit or clinic by
volunteering or observership or clerkship. It is very important!!! | c******s 发帖数: 5583 | 2 psychiatry is getting more difficult in recent matches. Last year 25 ppl
from my school matched into psychiatry willingly. Never happened in the past
.
American medicine is money driven so no surprise why more ppl are choosing
an easy yet rewarding residency. (great life style)
A lot of FMGs are going after psych, mostly indians (my experience only).
Most of them have excellent scores/resumes and they do speak decent English.
child psych and addiction medicine fellowships are very sought after lately. |
