POSITION DESCRIPTION
The individual will lead metal material science and engineering technology
development efforts in China. The individual will work with cross-functional
teams to fully leverage internal/external resources and provide materials
expertise to support product development for China and other Emerging
Markets. He/She will serve as a subject matter expert to interact
frequently with inter-organizational clients and outside customers in a wide
range of technical problems involving metallurgy and metals processing.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
• Drive metal material and processing technology development toward
commercially viable products.
• Provide technical leadership in developing and characterizing
novel metal materials, surgical instruments, and metallic implants. Lead
high level research & strategy for global and local projects.
• Provide an understanding of processing, mechanical design, and
failure modes to support different stage of the product development cycle.
• Collaborate with external scientists/engineers in the design and
testing of materials in biomedical devices.
• Establish and qualify novel physical, chemical and biological
methods for medical material and/or device characterization.
• Lead effort of publication and presentation of key scientific
findings to the technical community; attend relevant conferences; generate
intellectual property in the medical materials and implants.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• Advanced degree in Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical
Engineering, BME, Metallurgy, or related areas.
• Ph. D. with 5+ years, or MS with 8+ years of relevant experience
• Strong track record in driving metal technology or product
development projects toward commercial viable products (medical devices).
• Extensive experience with a variety of material characterization
and processing techniques; emphasis on metals for one of the following areas
• Demonstrated expertise in instrument operation and data analysis
using a variety of advanced analytical instruments.
• Strong organization and time management skills. Able to work in
direct, cross-functional and cross-cultural teams.
• Speak and write Mandarin and English fluently.
• Excellent customer service skills,
• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
• Able to travel up to 15% of the time.
DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• 3+ years of experience in Medical device industry
• Multiple IPs.
• Have potential and demonstrated skills in broad,
interdisciplinary areas (engineering design, prototype fabrication & testing
, coating & surface treatment, other materials such as ceramic, glass &
polymers)
• Expertise in metallurgy, corrosion and surface science,
electrochemistry, mechanics and fatigue/failure analysis of materials.
• Expertise in materials selection and structure-property
relationship utilization for medical device application.
• Proven continuous learning and leadership potential. |
