pretentiousness in how they see the world, how they do their job, etc.
One anecdote I saw a few years ago was about some reporter working for the
Time pestering some old cop for comment regarding a recent homicide case in
which a guy released some heavy construction stuff to crush his friend and
colleague who co-founded the company. The reporter pretty much already had
the answer in mind: the case is a reflection of current economic malaise
causing general psychological dislocation among wide swath of the population
, she just wanted the cop to make some comment to such effect so that she
could quote him as some sort of expert witness. The cop basically told her:"
In my opinion, the case has nothing to do with how the general economy
performs or how modern society creates aloofness, distrust and lack of
communication among members of our society, all the bullshit you reporters
like to quote. It has everything to do with the victim fucking wife of his
friend." |
