PORTSMOUTH
A suspect was shot during a home invasion Wednesday night and a second was
held by residents until police arrived in the 3900 block of Long Point Blvd.
One of several residents inside the home pulled out a gun and fired after
four armed, masked people entered shortly before 11 p.m., according to a
news release from police spokeswoman Misty Holley.
When officers arrived, they found a 29-year-old man who had been shot in the
back. He was taken to a hospital and was in critical condition, but he is
expected to recover.
The other two suspects escaped. The residents were unharmed.
The scene is in an upscale neighborhood of single family homes in the
Churchland area.
The suspect who was held by the residents, a 26-year-old, was charged with
several felonies, including robbery, use of a firearm in a felony, breaking
and entering, and conspiracy to commit a felony. The suspect in the hospital
also faces numerous charges.
Police have not identified the two men and are continuing the search for the
two who escaped.
