Both my family and our Chinese community are GRAVELY concerned about the
recent episode of the Kid’s Table Show on Jimmy Kimmel Live discussing the
government shutdown. In it the kids propose and display a cavalier attitude
towards the idea of killing all the Chinese in China so that the United
States would not need to pay back its national debts. We suppose this is
a show of comedy, but talking about killing people to avoid paying the owed
debt is very disturbing. As a host, Mr. Jimmy Kimmel did not object to that
idea; he even thought it was "interesting."
We think that cracking jokes of genocide like this on a national television
like ABC did is not appropriate. Remember how the holocaust of Jewish people
started in Germany? It started with public propaganda and demonizing a race
or a people! I hope ABC does not serve as this kind of shameful propaganda
tool one century later.
For this incident, we DEMAND an formal apology from Mr. Jimmy Kimmel as well
as from the president of ABC, to all the Chinese American in this country.
