It wasn’t hordes of kids who got in that way, but there were a handful
accepted every year who were “truly unqualified,” according to an
admissions official. A few had SATs as low as the 800s (out of 1600) and
GPAs hovering around 2.0, well below last year’s average of 1312 and 3.4.
“It is readily apparent that certain applicants are admitted at the
instigation of the President over the assessment of the Admissions Office,”
Kroll reported. Over a six-year period, 72% of applicants put on the “hold
” list were admitted, compared with 40% of the general pool.
