Hillary Clinton and her running mate, Tim Kaine, released a new batch of
their own income tax returns on Friday, ratcheting up the pressure on her
opponent, Donald J. Trump, to begin making public his own forms.

There have been also been questions about how much Mr. Trump has paid in
taxes over the years, whether he in fact paid any federal taxes some years,
and whether he has followed through on his charitable pledges.
In recent months, news organizations have unearthed public records that give
a glimpse of what Mr. Trump paid in income taxes for eight out of the last
41 years. The records show Mr. Trump paid income taxes in 1975, 1976 and
1977 — about $71,000 in all from a total reported income of about $218,000
over those three years. For three other years — 1978, 1979 and 1984 –
records show Mr. Trump paid no income taxes at all. In 1991 and 1993, New
Jersey gambling commission records indicate he paid little or no income
taxes.
Given the expansive web of tax breaks available to real estate developers,
tax experts say it would not be surprising if Mr. Trump paid little or no
income taxes in the other 33 years during this time span, even as he amassed
billions of dollars in wealth. |
