Earlier police in Barcelona said they had shot dead a man in a car which
failed to stop at a police check and struck a police officer.
The police check was on the Diagonal avenue in Barcelona. The car was later
found in Sant Just Desvern on the outskirts of the city.
Police said there was no indication the incident was connected to the Las
Ramblas attack.
However, Spanish media are now quoting police as saying that the dead man
found in the car in fact died from stab wounds and was not in the passenger
seat. He was the car's owner and was not known to the police, La Vanguardia
newspaper reported.
Police are now attempting to find out who was at the wheel of the car when
it ran over the police officer, the newspaper said. |
