Extremely high radiation found in soil
土壤中发现重度放射性污染

Japanese authorities have detected a concentration of a radioactive subs
tance 1,600 times higher than normal in soil at a village, 40 kilometers
away from the troubled nuclear power plant in Fukushima Prefecture.
日本官方向媒体透露，在调查远离福岛核电站40公里的一个村落土壤中，已经发现
超过平常值1600倍的放射性物质。
The disaster task force in Fukushima composed of the central and local g
overnments surveyed radioactive substances in soil about 5 centimeters b
elow the surface at 6 locations around the plant from last Friday throug
h Tuesday.
由中央和地方政府联合组建的福岛县灾害救援队，在上周礼拜5和礼拜6分别在6个地
点对当地地表5厘米土壤进行了抽样调查。
The results announced on Wednesday show that 163,000 becquerels of radio
active cesium-137 per kilogram of soil has been detected in Iitate Villa
ge, about 40 kilometers northwest of the plant.
调查结果在本周礼拜3对外界公布。在一个远离核电站40公里处名叫Iitate的村落，
调查数据显示其土壤中放射性物质铯-137的含量为惊人的163,000贝可勒尔/千克。
Gakushuin University Professor Yasuyuki Muramatsu, an expert on radiatio
n in the environment, says that normal levels of radioactive cesium-137
in soil are around 100 becquerels at most. The professor says he was sur
prised at the extremely high reading, which is 1,630 times higher than n
ormal levels.
日本Gakushuin大学环境辐射学专家，Yasuyuki Muramatsu教授向记者表示，通常情
况下土壤中铯-137的含量最多为100贝可勒尔/千克。教授对这次重度污染相当吃惊
，当地土壤中铯-137的污染值高于平常值的1630倍。
He warns that since radioactive cesium remains in the environment for ab
out 30 years it could affect agricultural products for a long time. He i
s calling on the government to collect detailed data and come up with wa
ys to deal with the situation.
Yasuyuki Muramatsu教授警告说铯-137元素在自然环境下会存在30年，它会对当地
农业造成相当长时间的影响。他号召政府向外界公布详细数据并想尽一切办法控制
当地放射性污染局势。

改一下：应该是检测到163000次衰变，实际衰变数更高。
