Chik-Fil-A Kickoff Game at the Georgia Dome, Virginia Tech Athletic Director
Jim Weaver confirmed to the Hampton Roads Daily Press.
Alabama has been a fixture as the Southeastern Conference's representative
in the game for months, but its Atlantic Coast Conference opponent remained
undetermined until now.
Weaver first told the Virginian-Pilot last week that the matchup was in the
works. The Hokies will postpone a two-game series with East Carolina from
2012-2013 to 2016-2017 in order to accomodate the Alabama game, the Daily
Press reported.
Alabama began its 2009 national championship season with a 34-24 win over
the Hokies at the same season-opening event. The 2013 game will be Alabama's
third time in the Chik-Fil-A game, having also routed Clemson 34-10 in 2008.
The Crimson Tide is set to open the 2012 season against Michigan at Cowboys
Stadium in Arlington, Texas. |
