CBS的某知名撰稿人甚至把这个聘任和Calipari 和肯德基篮球的联姻相提并论。我完全
赞成MEYER在OSU可以迎来事业的第二春。
首先看一下MEYER过去的成功记录吧。在UF之前，他在两个小学校Bowling Green和Utah
取得了成功，把两个默默无名的小球会带成了conference champion甚至BCS buster的
水准，从而在2005年成为教练人才市场上最炙手可热的明日之星。FLORIDA很幸运，正
好有了空缺，MEYER也审时度势，抓住了这个机会，在沼泽地成就了霸业，一举奠定了
NCAA超一流教练的地位。
有很多文章描写MEYER的这段奋斗史，简而言之，就是他带着两个比他还嫩的小兄弟Dan
Mullen以及Billy Gonzales（前者是MEYER在ND当WR教练时的GA，后者是MEYER在科罗
拉多州立当WR教练时的手下球员），四处拜访各家教练，然后加以融会贯通，发展出了
后来俗称为“辟邪剑法”的Spread Options。这些教练包括辟邪剑法的实际专利所有者
Rich Rodriguez，擅长Triple-Options的Paul Johnson，西岸进攻体系的John L.
Smith (Bobby Petrino的恩师)、Gary Pinkel、以及Kevin Wilson。以上这几个名字，
在今天当然都是名动江湖响当当的大号，可是在当时还只是教练界的小字辈，虽个中不
乏崭露头角之辈，但基本上还属于二三线的小人物，在一些二三流的小学校待着，苦等
着机会降临可以有出人头地的一天。
MEYER三兄弟当年可是比这些人还要嫩的菜鸟三人组。可是像所有行业一样，菜鸟如果
有钻研精神和埋头苦干的干劲，就一定有成功的机会。何况这是一个讲究智谋的行业，
虽然MEYER三兄弟当球员的时候都是九流的角色，但并不妨碍他们在教练界的发展。
MEYER在FL上任的2005年是SEC开始改朝换代的一年，之前的几年SEC基本上是东区Mark
Richt率领的UGA和西区Nick Saban指挥的LSU以及Tommy Tuberville指挥的AUBURN争雄
的局面。除了MEYER以外那一年还有以下球队更换了主教练：
LSU: Les Miles
SC : Steve Spurrier
Les Miles那年是从OK State主帅位置上来到LSU顶替塞班的，还没有今天这样的霸气外
泄；而人类精华已经不是当年在FL的Head Ball Coach了，功力大不如前。SEC之前的霸
主塞班去了NFL发展，Richt以及田纳西的菲胖开始有衰落的迹象。这个并不是件意外的
事情，传奇人物之若Joe Pa，在PSU四十余年也不过是仅拿过一个全国冠军。橄榄球教
练是斗智斗谋的行业，新锐教练在职业生涯刚开始精力旺盛之时有的是时间精力谋划出
最天才的战术，但到了五六十岁的职业生涯中晚期，便是吃吃老本走下坡路的时候了。
若是校方念在劳苦功高，或是对称霸全国没那么感冒，也许能混混日子；但若摊上了所
谓的传统名校，把荣誉看得比生命还重要，那就免不了英雄迟暮的悲凉了。
看看MEYER在FL初期他在SEC的其他对手吧：UK，Vandy之类的千年门垫就不说了，直到
今天鳄鱼还对他们保持了20-30年的常胜战绩；密州双熊就是西区的门垫，Ed Orgeron
还在孜孜不倦地招生试图改变球队羸弱的人才基础，虽然几年之后Houston Nutt摘了桃
子，用他的孩子们在鳄鱼主场upset了如日中天的MEYER，那是后话；Sylvester Croom
就是SEC的一个苦孩子：SEC的第一个黑人教练，拿着最低的工资，在联盟里整天被其他
球队暴打欺负，招生方面又看不到任何希望；如今大红大紫的阿拉巴马，当年的主帅是
官二代Mike Shula，战绩不咸不淡，完全没有如今塞班这般铁军风范；Houston Nutt那
个时候是在母校阿肯色，还没有Darren McFadden/ Felix Jones这对NFL组合以及
Springdale青年军助阵，仅在02-03年间有一个叫Matt Jones的身高近2米的QB算是昙花
一现过。
而SEC之外MEYER的另外一个主要对手FSU则开始走下坡路，继2004年最后一次拿ACC冠军
（战绩貌似是8胜4负之类）之后，老BOWDEN越来越让人觉得他已经离90年代中后期的黄
金时代渐行渐远了。
介绍了2005年的格局就是说一件事情：MEYER当年在FL，完全有称霸联盟的可能。
至于FL自己的情况，我在另外一个帖子里说过，猪哥虽无能，但是招生方面给MEYER留
下了大堆高年级学生。注意，是高年级。这个相当重要。我现在回想一下，这几乎是每
个新教练是否可以立刻取得好成绩的关键。
所以05年MEYER第一年的成绩还算不赖，取得9胜，最值得他自豪的是两件事情：一，主
场不败；二，同时打败了田纳西、UGA、以及FSU这三大死敌。
06年他又招来了提包和PERCY HARVIN，我就不赘述后来这几年发生的事情了。
如今BIG10的情况何其相似，MICHIGAN也刚刚换帅，也许Hoke会是BIG10版本的麦叔，但
至少他现在还不是；威斯康星和MICHIGAN ST之类的很solid，但绝对不是坚不可摧的，
有点类似当年SEC的UGA这样的角色；其他也没什么主要对手，MEYER在这里重新扬帆起
航，有的是机会去开创事业第二春。
抱歉我对BIG10球队的了解远不如我对SEC球队的了解，在这个问题上的阐述只能从SEC
角度来谈了。相比于如今SEC的群雄环伺，再看看MEYER六年在FL对西区球队的糟糕战绩
，显然BIG10是个更好的选择。 |

Forget UM. Given a bit more time, Muschamp will make a great coach at UF.

I read an article about Muschamp and his staff cannot find anyone that can
play this year although we keep hearing people talking about Urban Meyer left
the cupboard full.
Remember that fake punt play at LSU game? Let Wing Fly? At first glance it
looks like a bad coaching, but you know what? our coaches actually prepared
for fake punt going into the LSU game. They even assigned a spy on the punter.
Actually right before Wing punted again as a result of a delay-of-game
penalty, that player was pulled aside by the coaches and was told right into
his face DO NOT F**K IT UP. What happened? once the ball was snapped that
player turned his head and ran downfield. That player is no longer with
Gators anymore.
Remember Meyer's top ranked 2010 recruiting class? out of 25 players only 17
of them remain on the roster. Word is more transferring is coming.
I believe Muschamp and Weis needs another year or two to get his players.
Heck even Saban went 7-6 in his first year at Bama.

s first year record at Bama?
I kid, actually I won't mind pointing out that bama lost to La M in that
season.
The most difficult challenge for any new coach, is to push players recruited
by previous coaches to buy into your philosophy, and entire system. DJ Hall
, who was the leading WR in 07 for bama and a trouble maker, apologized in
front of media to bama coaches, ala Saban, that he and some other players "
did not quite understand why coaches asked us to do this and that and now we
realized they were right on all things".

guide the talents. We shall see Muschamp's ability in the future..
btw, how many years did he stay in Texas? Any good players drafted under
Muschamp?

brighter freshman instead of Brantley? Perhaps after couple trial games,
they should'v turned to Driskle?

year in and year out. Now they say he cannot recruit, or something like that
. That's just hindsight 20/20 with a bias of bitterness.
Methinks the turbulent coaching changes have more to do about the production
of young players. Muschamp cleaned the house when he arrived which in my
view was a really risky move, if not just plain bad.
But he did keep Stan Drayton, and for what exactly? I bet it had something
to do with his gaudy NSD track records. Recruit class rankings may not help
fans looking at a 500 season. But they sure matter to media blowhards and
bandwagoners which apparently is like 90% of the sports world.
