Purpose
The Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences (CNMS) at Oak Ridge National
Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate with
experience and expertise in organic spintronics, with a strong emphasis on
the design, fabrication and characterization of organic spintronic device.
The CNMS http://cnms.ornl.qov/ is a nanoscience research facility supported by the Office of Science, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The CNMS has a diverse spectrum of nanoscience activities including a nanofabrication facility; research on polymers, and functional nanomaterials; electron and scanning probe microscopies; x-ray diffraction/scattering; theory, modeling, and simulation, and benefits from the strong interactions with the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS), High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR) and the National Center for Computational Sciences at ORNL. This position resides in the Functional Hybrid Nanomaterials Group in the Center for Nanophase materials Sciences (CNMS), Physical Sciences Directorate (PSD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
OVERVIEW: As a member of the Functional Hybrid Nanomaterials Group, major
responsibilities/duties will include design, fabrication and
characterization of organic spintronic devices such as spin-valve (SV) and
light emitting diode (LED) based on the conjugated polymers. The successful
candidate will join an interdisciplinary research team with expertise in
neutron/X-ray scattering, conjugated polymer synthesis, theory/simulation,
thin film growth, materials chemistry, and device fabrication/
characterization to explore the effect of selective deuterium substitution,
i.e., the effect of subatomic, intermolecular and interfacial structure on
the magnetotransport property of the fabricated organic spintronic devices.
Major Duties/Responsibilities
• Take a lead role in the design, fabrication and characterization of
organic spintronic devices
• Formulate a forefront research effort in organic spintronics that
takes advantages of existing capabilities in conjugated polymer synthesis,
characterization, modelling/simulation and neutron scattering
• Interface with various scientists group with expertise in neutron/X-
ray scattering, conjugated polymer synthesis, theory/simulation, thin film
growth, materials chemistry, and device fabrication/characterization to
explore the effect of selective deuterium substitution of conjugated
polymers on the magnetotransport property of the organic spintronic devices
• Responsible for presenting and reporting research results and
publishing scientific results in peer-reviewed journals in a timely manner
• Ensure compliance with environment, safety, health and quality
program requirements
• Maintain strong commitment to the implementation and perpetuation of
values and ethics
Qualifications Required
A PhD completed within the last 5 years in Materials Science, Polymer
Science, Physics, or other relevant fields from an accredited institution
• An excellent record of productive and creative research demonstrated
by publications in peer-reviewed journals
• Expertise in designing, fabricating and characterizing organic
spintronic devices
• Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to
communicate in English to an international scientific audience
• Motivated and safety conscious
• Ability to set priorities, multi-task and adapt to ever changing
needs with the proven ability to function well in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work with a measure of autonomy and a willingness to
participate creatively in a collaborative team environment
QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED: Experience with polymer thin film processing and
characterization, (AFM, UV-vis, XRD), and cryogenic electrical and magnetic
measurement (SQUID, PPMS) is highly desirable.
The detailed application information see below: http://www.cnms.ornl.gov/careers.shtm or you can email to Kai Xiao, [email protected]
