in your basement. all water will go through this system before being used
say in boiler or watering the flowers. it makes a very good impact on the
life of the boiler and of course the quality of the water because the water
is much cleaner (can drink directly, comparable to the bottled water based
on my friends who are medical majors.
the consumable is some kind of salt. Culligan sells you the system (i think
all in cost about $1600 last year, not sure if it includes installation).
Then Culligan will sell you the salt, they can deliver the salt on a
quarterly or monthly or semi-annual basis, depending on your need. I pay NJ
water about $50/month for water, that amount water use about one bag of salt
each month. Each bag of salt, after delivery charge and other service
charge, is about $3 per bag. Culligan can also rent the system, the cost per
year is roughly $300-$400 last time I checked. |

watch out for the amount of sodium in the softened water (if you get one
that's salt-based ), you might want to avoid using it as drinking water for
babies and old people who are on low-sodium diet.
