Today we stand here to protest against not only the Jimmy Kimmel Kids Table
Show on
October 16, 2013, but also ABC’s lack of a sincere, public apology for
Jimmy Kimmel’s
misguided decision. During the show, a six-year-old boy proposed the idea of
solving
America's debt crisis by "killing everyone in China." Mr. Kimmel responded,
"That's an
interesting idea.” He then asked the kids, “Should we allow the Chinese to
live?" By not editing
this taped segment, you should hold yourselves accountable for teaching our
children that
killing others is an acceptable practice.
Although ABC has since pulled the episode off of the air and communicated
with several
Asian-American organizations, we have not seen a public statement of a full
apology on air.
ABC, in a letter to 80-20 and Mr. Kimmel on an October 28, 2013 episode,
maintained that the
segment was meant for entertainment. What ABC referred to as Mr. Kimmel’s
so-called
apology (“I am sorry if I offended you.”) further ridiculed the Chinese.
During a conversation
with protesters on October 29, 2013, Mr. Kimmel even alluded to the
outrageous idea that the
anger of the Asian community was due to a “cultural difference.” Mr.
Kimmel’s repeated bad
judgment undoubtedly demonstrates that he is an unsuitable public figure or
role model for our
children. In addition, Disney, a PERFECT idol in children's world, should
take a strong moral
stand on human dignity. There should be zero tolerance, especially across
its own
organization, of hate speeches of any kind.
We respectfully demand that:
(1) ABC issue a public apology on air and on all of its websites,
acknowledging that it
was wrong to broadcast the October 16, 2013 episode.
(2) ABC dismiss Mr. Kimmel and explain in details the reasons to the public.
(3) ABC publish specific procedures and institute training programs to
ensure racial
tolerance and advise the Chinese community of its plan.
ABC, killing is NOT a joke!
ABC, take action to let the public know there is zero tolerance for
statements of hatred on
network television!
ABC, your so-called apologies are NOT acceptable!
Disney, teach our children to LOVE, not hate!
Fellow Americans, join us in our fight against racial discrimination!
TOGETHER we will make
America a better place to live for us ALL!

Couple suggestions/changes, please double check.
1. you should hold yourselves accountable for teaching our
children that

Changed to "You are teaching our children that killing others is an
acceptable practice."
2. ABC, in a letter to 80-20 and Mr. Kimmel on an October 28, 2013 episode,
Change to "ABC, in a letter to 80-20 (An Asian American Organization) and Mr
. Kimmel on an October 28, 2013 episode"
Average Joes don't know what 80-20 is. Or just delete the whole line and
make it,
ABC and Mr. Kimmel refuse to admit their mistake and continued to claim the

To be fair, ABC and JK never “taught” children that killing others is an
acceptable practice. Making such a strong accusation (some would call it an
exaggeration) would cost us credibility.
“Asian community”
I am not sure if any other Asian community has been involved. If not, no
need to exaggerate.
“he is an unsuitable public figure or role model for our children”
JK is a comedian, few people would think of him as a role model even before
this.
DEMANDS:
“… explain in details the reasons to the public”
Not clear why asking this. It is very difficult to achieve.

Suggest take out “Advise the Chinese community”. This should be a
responsibility for all ethnicities.

Today we stand here to protest against an outrageous event that was recently
broadcasted on a national TV network and the following responses from
Jimmy Kimmel and reactions from ABC network.
On Jimmy Kimmel’s Kids Table show aired on October 16, 2013, in response to
the host, Mr. Kimmel’s question of how to solve America’s foreign debt
crisis, a six-year-old boy said "killing everyone in China." Mr. Kimmel
responded, "That's an interesting idea.” He then asked the kids, “Should
we allow the Chinese to live?"
While Mr. Kimmel was seemingly enjoying this “interesting” conversation,
we have been deeply shocked that genocide had been treated as a joke. “Kids
Table show” is a scripted and recorded late night show. By engaging kids
in such a barbaric conversation and then allowing this segment to be aired
on a national network, Mr. Kimmel and ABC Network have made a serious
mistake.
After this episode was aired, there have been wide-spread protests from
Chinese communities around the country. However, the reactions from Mr.
Kimmel and ABC network to our voices have been both disappointing and even
more offensive at the same time. Mr. Kimmel finally addressed this issue on
the October 28, 2013 episode. However, he insisted that the segment was
meant for entertainment and offered a so-called apology – “I am sorry if I
offended you.” In another public statement from Mr. Kimmel, on October 30,
he even alluded that the protest of the Chinese community was due to a “
cultural difference.”
We are also deeply disappointed by the dismissive attitude in how ABC
network have been treating this serious offense. Following the protests, ABC
network pulled this episode off the air. In personal communications to some
Asian-American organizations, they have also expressed regrets (NEED BETTER
DETAILS). However, we have not seen an official statement from the company
to address the questions and concerns from the whole Chinese community.
Neither has there been any disciplinary action against Mr. Kimmel or anyone
else, to hold them responsible for what has happened on the show and
afterwards. Disney Company, which owns ABC network and is built upon the
idea of building a beautiful childen’s world (NEED HELP. NOT SURE ABOUT
DISNEY), should take a stronger moral stand on this matter. There should be
zero tolerance, especially across its own organization, of hate speeches of
any kind.
We respectfully demand that:
(1) ABC issue a public apology on air and on all of its websites.
(2) ABC dismiss Mr. Kimmel other responsible staff members .
(3) ABC publish specific procedures and institute training programs to
