想打听一下孩子的上学的情况。小孩才一岁半，但是一年后怎么也得开始上Daycare了：
Daycare需要排队吗？
Pre-K 和Kindergarden 怎么个上法？排队吗？
哪里的学区比较好？需要考试入学吗？
去哪里寻找这些信息呢？

因为按照原则优先WAITING LIST的学生，
十几个人在WAITING LIST上的情况不会少见，
Mahattan上的第二学区天才班考试97%的人多于
90%到96%的人，就算达到97%的成绩，
也不一定进得了有天才班和学校，

provider.
For pre-K, check with your zoned school if they provide one. You can apply out of zone but don't hold your breath for it. NYC's pre-K is
just a token, spots are very limited. Application starts in the winter
before your child turns 4. (That is, the year when s/he is 3 on Dec 31).
Elementary schools are zoned. The better schools all have long waiting lists
. If you get on a waiting list, in the end you can probably still get into
your zoned school, but the uncertainty can last until late August.The chance
of getting into a good school not zoned to your address is very slim. In
Manhattan, most schools below 86th street are decent ones. I'm not familiar
with Brooklyn. I heard that Sunset part and Park slope have good schools.
Gifted-and-talented programs require tests. There are heavy tutoring going
on and the scores are rising year by year. Application starts in the
previous winter, around Oct/Nov. There are city-wide programs and district-
wide programs. City-wide ones are better, and they don't have enough spots
for 99% percentilers last year. District-wide programs are of varying
quality. You may end up better with a plain-vanilla good school than a g&t
program in a so-so school.
Hunter elementary has a separate admission program, requiring an IQ test.
Application also starts in the winter before the year your child turns 5.
