There is something cannot joke about - Jimmy Kimmel
There are some protests against Jimmy Kimmel thorough several states. I went
to three events which took place in NYC. I emphasize my attendance to
strongly advocate that there is something cannot be joke at. Mr. Kimmel
joked (maybe he is not joking) about the most precious thing to me including
the life of my family. In the show Mr. Kimmel used a joke related context
to express “kill everyone in China”. Even it is from the mouth of a kid,
it is not fun. It should not be aired. It is much less fun for him to follow
up to ask ”should we allow Chinese to live”? My life is my privilege like
others and it is not something you gifted to me and can try to take back.
In his “apologize” on Oct 28, I get more annoyed because from what he said
I read “It is ok to joke about killing Chinese.” When you are being funny
, please do not to offend. Mr. Kimmel might not know it offend us or he do
not know how much it upsets me(us). As a father, I worried that “will
someone joke to Joshua about killing”? As a result, I stand out in protest
and hope him will truly understand it is a serious matter.
When watching the video first time, I did not think too much. However, I
get annoyed after further discussing with friends with elder kids in school.
Children are taught not to say things like this from their early days of
school. Mr. Kimmel should know this. He should not air the episode. Some
people other than Chinese might not feel be offended and think it is a joke.
But not all think it is. When I handed out the leaflet at ABC headquarter
in upper west, several people passed by to say that it is unforgettable.
They mentioned them are Jews. Only the people who have suffered the pain
will understand there is something cannot joke about.
In today’s time square protest, there was a Germany came by to say it is a
joke. He said it is ok for Mr. Kimmel to air “kill all Germany”. I envy
about his confidence and comfortableness to say this. From what he said he
is very confident it is impossible to kill all Germany, also he knows no one
will joke it in public. Basically, he has two levels of confidence: first,
there will be no one (dare) joke about them; second, he is confident they
will never be the one to be killed. It is a little different form me, tons
of civilian Chinese was killed in World War II and lots Chinese get killed
in Indonesia in May 1998. If I am confident enough, I will not care if you
said to kill me face to face. So I have to protest again today and appeal
not to joke about it, a protest you will care more when you have kids.
In the protest, some people laughed at me that you cannot even get chance to
protest in China. I feel sad about that and make me more pressure to get a
well living environment in US.
In a world still full of violence, please do not joke about killing, Mr.
Kimmel. |
