"Secure Cloud" as promised by the big data cloud vendors/cheerleaders is an
oxymoron. The news breaking yesterday here:

This is huge! Basically our supposedly secure data has been travelling
online naked for the last 2 years. All the credit card transactions, other
transactions and all the cloud shared documents, web emails were open to
any hackers.
Financial Companies are outsourcing not only the call center staff also
their IT and accounting to India (Capital One, Chase, Citi). Big retailers
too, like Target and Walmart and Homedepot. Even big software outfits, even
those specializing in security, like Semantec, VMware, IBM, Microsoft.
Governments contracting out to outsourcing giants like Infosys and Accenture
like Obamacare website. Many of these are now in deep pain because of
the fundamental insecurities and ineffeciencies of outsourcing via the "
cloud".
Now we know that our data has been naked for the last 2 years. Hmmm.
I'm not saying internet is bad, that we should go back to box software
with its rare updates. But the direction where the data travels matters, a
lot. Data that is being sucked up and shunted across the world with NO
transparency, consider them naked, no matter how many times
the gurus assure you that your data are in good hands.
Cost of storage is plummeting. The mathematics for outsourcing storage
at the cost of bandwidth and insecurity no longer makes
sense. Yet the "cloud" continues to get pushed by interested parties.
why? Because it's a trap. Be ware of the big data "gurus" bearing
"cloud", they are trying to steal your data as well as your jobs. | T********e 发帖数: 8631 | 2 Picturing LZ in the cloud ... |
