醒了我一下说如果你自己小孩需要用，以后得买回来的。因为当时他也打算donate，结
果听说买回来的费用很高，就花钱存private bank了。
于是我就写了一封长信问public bank的负责人。我了解到的信息是：
1。收集和存储成功率是50%。不成功的扔掉或者用作research.
2。public bank不会给你confirmation或者record告诉你存储成功。
3。如果你的小孩病了，你要通知bank.
4. 存储成功的话，会无限期存下去。
5。如果你的小孩或者家人病了，或者其他任何人病了，要用这个cord blood，都需要
支付public bank费用。 （她没有告诉我具体多少。）原话是这样的：The cost of
transplant is currently in the tens of thousands: some insurance coverage
will cover depending on the illness. The bank is paid when units are
selected and sent for transplant.（我的理解是这个费用是包含在transplant里面
的，得看你的保险cover不cover.总之public bank会收钱的。）
6。信中还提到：There are very few conditions currently being treated with an
autologous infusion (the child's own cord blood) so this may not be the '
best' match. (这个和lyrabb说的一样，大概就是自己的血救自己的可能性很小。
lyrabb也提到小孩的血救大人不够用,也就是说只能救小孩的兄弟姐妹了.我想问问

我现在觉得donate能救别人也不错，但是如果救自己的亲属要买回来很unfair.其他病
人也要从public bank买cord blood也很unfair.
但是存private bank，他们收集和存储的成功率是多少呢？(public bank 的成功率才
50%.) private bank会不会confirm你成功了呢？没成功还收费吗? 没成功会告诉你吗? | l****b

bone marrow contains a lot more stem cells than cord blood. With the
current technology, the stem cells from single source cord blood will not be
enough to treat people, young or old. I heard that you often need to pool
cord blood from different sources from public bank to treat patients. If
you save it in a private bank and use it to treat your family members, then
the bone marrow of the donor needs to be used as well to collect enough stem
cell.
I'm not a professional in this field. I just did some readings on this
topic.

If I donate my child's cord blood to a public bank, it's because I'm
convinced that I won't be using it in the future and by donating it to a
public bank, I have a chance to help other people. If one doesn't have this
kind of conviction, saving the blood in a private bank buys peace of mind.
Although whether there is such peace is debatable.
Public bank has low success rate because they have very tight criteria,
which is both good and bad. Good is that the stuff in the bank is high
quality and probably guaranteed to be useful if a match happens. Bad is
that my sample would be discarded if it didn't meet their criteria.
Private banks probably don't have those tight criteria so they'll save your
blood anyway since you pay for it. But lack in regulation could further
diminish a parent's hope to buy peace of mind. Of course, one hope one
never ever needs to use it in the first place...

己大.而真要做移植的时候,如果match了,用cord blood还是骨髓要看具体是什么病.
cord blood里面的cell要多一些, 对移植人的年龄体重有限制.骨髓移植也有其他一些
限制.
最近报道的NJ的public bank存储成功率只有30%.那么private bank存储的到底能不能
或者够不够用来治病就很难说了.
我的大概认识是cord blood扔了可惜,存起来多半是给兄弟姐妹用(如果兄弟姐妹生病的
话),但是用不用的上(能否match? 是不是足够? 或者选择骨髓移植?)很难说.

我也时前一阵子看了cnn的一篇介绍public bank的文章才了解到这个情况的。
private bank没有公开数据，谁也说不上来。据说，到目前为止private bank里用掉的
cord blood案例少到几乎没有。
private banking is a business.所以不影响公司把生意越做越大。
父母选择存private bank,可以理解是为买个安心。虽然现在已知的数据都suggest这个
安心是个illusion.不过这也无所谓。人嘛，自己说服自己就可以了。而且存进去了，
除了把钱送给公司，nothing to lose.一定要说的话，失去一个小小的救别人的机会。

发帖数: 408 | 8 我估计还是选择public donation了,虽然我觉得public bank卖cord blood是趁人之危.
至少donate了,有可能会救其他人.如果自己小孩需要,肯定要买回来.保险好,没问题.保
险不好,钱又不够的话,就宣布破产吧.private bank先交钱,但是也是没有定数的,还失
去了救其他人的可能.
