Job Description
Texas Children's Cancer and Hematology Centers offer a post-Master's nurse
practitioner (Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner)
fellowship & training program for those interested in the care of children
and adolescents with cancer, hematologic disorders, and/or stem cell
transplantation. Clinical tracts within oncology, hematology and stem cell
transplantation allow graduates / nurse practitioners to obtain a
comprehensive overview and/or obtain focused training in an area of special
interest. The three-month clinical [July - September] fellowship provides a
comprehensive educational pediatric-focused nurse practitioner program
coupled with clinical opportunities designed to provide the nurse
practitioner fellow with in-depth knowledge of the diagnosis and management
of pediatric hematologic and oncologic disorders, and stem cell
transplantation.
NOTES: 3 openings.
Additional Salary Information: Stipend: $3,000.00 per month x 3 months
Requirements
Applicants must have at least one year experience in pediatric oncology
nursing, have completed a Master’s degree in nursing and be eligible for
national Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Certification or Family Nurse
Practitioner Certification. Texas RN licensure from the Texas Board of
Nursing and evidence of graduation from a Master’s Program in Nursing is
required prior to starting the program. Application deadline is April 1st.

Job Description
Each patient is assigned a primary hematologist or transplant physician, and
a primary nurse practitioner or physician assistant.
The inpatient Hematology nurse practitioner or physician assistant will
provide continuity of care for each patient by rounding daily, conducting
physical examinations, determining necessary therapies, ordering and
interpreting laboratory and diagnostic studies, educating patients and
families regarding diagnosis and treatment, and ongoing patient follow-up or
guidance through palliative care.
The inpatient Oncology NP or PA will provide care as described above for
oncology patients, and may perform clinically indicated diagnostic
procedures.
The Bone Marrow Transplant NP or PA will provide care as described in an
outpatient setting with the potential for inpatient rotations, and may
perform clinically indicated diagnostic procedures.
Providers work with a multidisciplinary team in a large research and
academic pediatric hematology, oncology, and bone marrow transplant setting.
