Planning to do it in mid-late Oct; down from the north and up from the south
. We only have two people, so currently want to
Day 1) Drive to the north rim
Q1: There is no availability at the lodge which suits my dates; any other re
commendations? If so, shall we drive to the trail head on the hiking day and
leave the car there? It will be parked there for 2 days...
Day 2) Hike from the north to the South; stay at the South
Q2: Any recommended hotel there? Since we won't have a car at that time, wil
l appreciate proximity to the trail head
Day 3) Take the shuttle back to the north rim
Q3: Can I assume the shuttle will drop me at hte trail head so i can pick up
my car?
Any information will be highly appreciated! Tips & comments too!

是R2R2R,对可能的路线有个概念吧。

时间上来讲应该5/10月底好些吧，不会太冷或太热。
如果不走R2R2R的话还得计划一下，比如和人商量好以相反路线行进，谷底交换车/旅馆
钥匙等事宜。
phantom ranch可以邮寄明信片，所以有这个打算的话带上收件人的地址。

第一天可以在北岸露营。那时候营地应该很多空位
走到南岸以后，去哪里都很容易，路边搭车就好了。回到北岸取车也是一个道理

of gain going up the north side, not a big deal. I'd put more weight on
other factors rather than just the elevation gain and loss.

1. when you finished, you are tired and want more service, south rim has
more service availble.
2. The south rim part of bright angle trail is much smoozer and the water
hole is not every far away at every 1.5 miles. when you tired, you want on
this trail. not on the north rim part of bright angle trail.
3. South rim trail has more people passing by, if you are tired at the last
part of your hike, you are more likely has accident or injury. you will get
help much easier.

Should I hike South to North or North to South?
There are benefits of hiking in each direction. Here are some factors to
consider in choosing a direction for your hike:
A North to South hike means a shorter climb out of the canyon. The North
Kaibab trail head is at about 8200 feet. The South Kaibab trail head is at
about 7200 feet. The Bright Angel trail head, at about 6800 feet, is the
lowest of the three.
If the South Kaibab trail is a "must do" for you, hike South to North.
It is best to descend the waterless South Kaibab trail.
"Civilization" tends to diminish as you hike from South to North. If you
like the idea of seeing fewer people as your hike progresses, hike South to
North.

Most folks choosing to do a R2R will begin on the North Rim and those who
seek the R2R2R will start on the South Rim. Why? Because the climb up the
North Rim is long and arduous. 13.4 miles from the Phantom Ranch (the Bottom
) where runners must climb 6,000′ to the top of the rim. Might not seem
that bad except… the last 4.7 miles of the hike features a 4,000′ climb at
a 12.5% Grade which includes the switchbacks. With that said, Starting a
R2R2R on the North Rim is the harder way to go because this climb will
destroy what’s left of you at the end of the day. |

具体计划是 26日从vegas 取车，下午到大峡谷 south rim,27日早晨四点从south rim
出发，中午12点到north rim, 晚上8点回到south rim. 28日 休整/或开车到north rim
. 29日早晨开车回vegas, 晚上飞机回多伦多。
欢迎要走r2r2r 或者r2r的一起走。如果你走r2r2r, 即使速度不一样，路上也可以至少
碰一次面，可以相互有个照应。如果你走r2r, 10月15日以后北边大多数facility都关
掉，北高南低，所以一般来说都是从北边走，如果你27日从north rim 走r2r去 south
rim, 我28日可以把你从south rim 带到north rim（10月15日以后north rim的shuttle
也停掉了）你停车的地方。 |
