(KUTV) A cyclist in the Tour of Utah was injured after slamming into a car
in Big Cottonwood Canyon Saturday afternoon, according to a team doctor.
Matt Brammeier crashed on stage 6 of the tour after colliding with a service
car on the descent from Guardsman Pass in Big Cottonwood Canyon.
Dr. Jarrad van Zuydam, team doctor, says he suffered no head, neck or spinal
injuries but did sustain fractures to his ribs on both sides, a small
pneumothorax. He also has fractures to pelvic bones.
A video of the crash went viral on Facebook. In the clip, the service car
slows to make a sharp left hand turn. It shows Brammeier unable to stop on
time and slammed into the car.

This caused a chain reaction as two other cyclists crashed shortly after. It
’s not clear if they were injured.
Brammeier’s injuries are unlikely to require surgery and officials say he’
s in stable condition.
He took to social media yesterday, tweeting from the hospital to thank fans
