The older firewire standard has been completely locked out with the 4G iPod
nano and 2G iPod touch. This means that you cannot sync or charge a 2G iPod
touch using a firewire cable. The 1G iPod touch could be charged with
firewire but could not be synced with it. Firewire uses the older 12V
convention while USB2.0 uses 5V. The new generation iPods (except the 120GB
iPod classic) cannot accept a 12V input. This mans that most 3rd part car
chargers won't work as they use the older firewire 12V convention.
There isn't a workaround but some company has come out with an adapter that
steps down the 12V to 5V. I don't know where it can be purchased or how much
it is but I know this accessory is out there. You can use the accessory
when wanting to charge your iPod with your older AC adapter and your Monster
car unit. That is the only "one stop" accessory that you can purchase. So
you can spend your money for one of those or buy a new AC adapter and a new
car unit.
I will say this again: there is no workaround that you can do with the 2G
iPod touch to let it accept a 12V input.
