digital imaging, Shin Jong-kyun, announced that the Samsung Galaxy S II will
arrive in the US “sometime in August.” Jong-kyun didn’t give a firm
release date or which carriers the device would be sold on.
The Android-powered S II was released in South Korea, Japan, and Europe
earlier this year in April. Within two months, the S II brought in record
sales of about 3 million units. In a recent interview, Jong-kyun claimed
that Samsung would top 60 million smartphone sales this year.
With such high hopes from Samsung and for the S II, the dark cloud known as
Apple might just rain on their party. The S II’s release in August may or
may not be days off from the much speculated iPhone 5 announcement. Without
a leg-up with LTE, the S II may fall victim to the hoards of consumers ready
to get their hands on the “latest-and-greatest” from the Cupertino giant.
