There is something sad about these landscapes. They are, after all, located
in the neglected empty space which exists between public and private land.
Yet, these spaces also offer a constant reminder of the resilience of nature
. This theme of ecology adapting to change was what inspired my next
project, Animal Holes. It was on one of my urban expeditions along an old
landfill in California that I came upon a warren of feral jack rabbit holes.
What caught my eye was that in burrowing their holes, the rabbits had also
unearthed piles of jewel-like treasures from the landfill below. Bits of
rusted metal, rubber hose, and iridescent glass sat like offerings in front
of each black hole. The animal holes embodied the idea of the makeshift
landscape on a micro-scale, a sort of intimate epilogue to the Borderlands
project.

说起环保类的照片,容许我再次介绍Chris Jordan(上次好像是3年前了吧),也许跟
http://www.chrisjordan.com/gallery/epu/#e-pluribus-unum
Intolerable Beauty:
Crushed cars #2, Tacoma 2004 44x62"
Cell phones, Orlando 2004 44 x 82"
Chassis Yard #2, Tacoma 2004 44x70"
Drums, Seattle 2004 40x50"
Container yard #2, Seattle 2004 44x56"
Cans Seurat, 2007 60x92"
Depicts 106,000 aluminum cans, the number used in the US every thirty
seconds.
http://www.chrisjordan.com/gallery/rtn/#cans-seurat
Dog and Cat Collars, 2009 60x67"
Depicts ten thousand dog and cat collars, equal to the average number of
unwanted dogs and cats euthanized in the United States every day.
http://www.chrisjordan.com/gallery/rtn/#dog-and-cat-collars
Skull With Cigarette, 2007 98x72"
Depicts 200,000 packs of cigarettes, equal to the number of Americans who
die from cigarette smoking every six months. Based on a painting by Van Gogh.
http://www.chrisjordan.com/gallery/rtn/#skull-with-cigarette
These photographs of albatross chicks were made in September, 2009, on
Midway Atoll, a tiny stretch of sand and coral near the middle of the North
Pacific. The nesting babies are fed bellies-full of plastic by their parents
, who soar out over the vast polluted ocean collecting what looks to them
like food to bring back to their young. On this diet of human trash, every
year tens of thousands of albatross chicks die on Midway from starvation,
toxicity, and choking.
To document this phenomenon as faithfully as possible, not a single piece of
plastic in any of these photographs was moved, placed, manipulated,
arranged, or altered in any way. These images depict the actual stomach
contents of baby birds in one of the world's most remote marine sanctuaries,
more than 2000 miles from the nearest continent.

Are those works blown up to wall size? I imagine they are gonna be eye-
catching if they are big enough.
A few years ago my wife and I were in a gallery in SoHo. We loved a wall
size painting of an apple. Yes, nothing else, just a green apple as big as a
mid-size tent. We would not even look at it if the picture is 14x11 :DDD
