The World Stage

Last Tuesday we took a pratfall on the world stage: the high pressure test
of the Fermilab-built inner triplet failed dramatically in the LHC tunnel
with a loud "bang" and a cloud of dust. It was the first time that the three
magnets together with the associated interface box (DFBX) that supplies
them with the cryogenic and electrical connections had been tested as an
assembly. The high pressure test simulated conditions that can occur in a
