When the other water parks are shut down during the cold months, visit an
indoor water park and bring the atmosphere of summer fun to your winter
vacation. Pack the family in the car for a road trip from Pittsburgh to one
of the nearby indoor water parks.
1. Splash Lagoon
Splash Lagoon offers a variety of water rides and activities for your family
's entertainment. Adventure Bay encourages visitors to play a game of water
basketball, and body slides like Shark Attack, Maui Wowwie and Hurricane
Hole welcome guests to ride the water down to a pool. The Frog Pond offers a
whirlpool with splashing fountains, whereas the Lava Pool is a calmer, more
relaxing environment. Paradise Cove provides adults-only fun. Other
activities include arcade games, magic shows, board games, crafts and a dry
tree house.
Lodging accommodations are not available at Splash Lagoon, but a Residence
Inn and Comfort Inn are located next door, ensuring your family can stay for
a long weekend at this destination just two hours from Pittsburgh.

2. Kalahari
America's largest indoor water park, The African-themed Kalahari offers all
of the joys of a water park all year round. Popular rides include Swahili
Swirl, a 60-foot diameter bowl raft ride. Zip Coaster offers the thrills of
a roller coaster but in a water slide.
Cheetah Race allows you to speed down a water slide on a mat, racing your
friends in the three other lanes. Other amenities include lazy rivers, raft
rides and even a swim-up bar. Kalahari also provides surfing simulators and
activity pools. Other activities include mini-golf, arcade games, craft-
making, and scavenger hunts.
Kalahari also has an outdoor water park, which is open during the summer
only. Restaurants on the premises of Kalahari include Kahunaville and the
Great Karoo Marketplace.
Less than a three-hour drive from Pittsburgh, Kalahari also offers lodging

3. Great Wolf Lodge
The enormous indoor water park at Great Wolf Lodge offers a four-story
interactive tree house water fort, which is made up of 12 levels of soaking
wet fun. Suspension bridges and cargo nets lead the way to water slides in
the fort. Every few minutes, a warning bell chimes and 1,000 gallons of
water pours from the tipping bucket at the top.
The lazy river allows guests to relax in a raft and let the current take
them on a tour of the river. Big Foot Pass gives guests a challenge in
agility as they jump from log to log in an effort to stay out of the water
below. More slides, towers and pools are available for endless amounts of
wet fun.
Other activities include arcade games and story time beneath the Clock Tower.
Lodging accommodations provide kid-friendly wolf dens, which are cave-themed
secluded areas with bunk beds and televisions. The wolf dens are located
within the family suites, ensuring adults can unwind on one of the queen-
sized beds and watch television while the children are in their caves
playing Nintendo. This destination is less than three hours from Pittsburgh,
allowing you to take the family for a long weekend of water-filled fun.
