另外，Adam ferguson 在谈到civil society 的时候说 civil society is a socially
desirable alternative both to state of nature and the individualism.

（以下简称SON）最初应该是托马斯·霍布斯在《列维坦》（Leviathan)
里提出的一个概念， 指的是 one in which there were no
enforceable criteria of right and wrong. Each person took for himself all that
he could; human life was “solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short.” The
state of nature was therefore a state of war。
这是现实主义的理论基础之一，其实霍布斯的SON就是现实主义Anarchy。
后来的约翰·洛克，批判的继承了这一观点，在《政府论》（Two Treatises o
f Government），他提出了不同于霍布斯的SON的观点，Locke differed from Hobbes
insofar as he described the state of nature as one
