DOMA Repeal Bill to be Introduced Wednesday

Jerrold Nadler Legislation to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act will be
introduced in the House on Wednesday by Reps. Jerrold Nadler, John Conyers,
and all four openly gay members of Congress.
According to a news release from the House, the Respect for Marriage Act,
which would repeal DOMA in its entirety, will be re-introduced by Reps.
Nadler, Conyers, Barney Frank, Tammy Baldwin, Jared Polis, and David
Cicilline. The legislation already has 105 original co-sponsors in the House
, and Sens. Diane Feinstein, Patrick Leahy and Kirsten Gillibrand plan to
introduce a companion bill in the Senate.
“The Respect for Marriage Act would repeal DOMA, and comes in response to a
call from President Obama for Congressional action on the issue,” reports
the news release. “As the President has stated: ‘I stand by my long-
standing commitment to work with Congress to repeal the so-called Defense of
Marriage Act. It’s discriminatory, it interferes with states’ rights, and
it’s time we overturned it.’ Last week, on the heels of the President’s
decision not to defend DOMA in court, House Republican Leadership announced
that it will defend DOMA in court, making passage of the Respect for
Marriage Act more critical than ever.”
The re-introduction of the bill will be announced at a press conference at
11 a.m. at the Capitol that will feature the lawmakers, marriage equality
advocates and two of the lead plaintiffs in twp cases challenges DOMA,
Windsor v. United States and Gill et al. v. Office of Personnel Management

still had the freaking majority in both the house and the senate. it didn't
get passed then, it won't pass now.
the dems have had two years to repeal DOMA section 3 and what did they do?
Nothing. as i said before, they are just using the LGBT community as a pawn
to appeal to their most progressive base of supporters. I'd still vote for
them though, because while they did nothing but neglect this community and
make us the second class citizens, the reps are actively trying to hurt us.
it's like choosing between the shitty and the shittiest.

point, everybody knows it will not get passed and the dems are merely using
this to appease the progressive front of their supporters. It has everything
yet nothing to do with helping this community.
I try not to be too cynical about the situation, but the first two years of
Obama administration saw an abominable track record of him keeping his
campaign promises to this community, and the sudden focus on our issues is
just too convenient right before the 2012 election. I guess Obama realized
that no matter what he advocates for bipartisan efforts, he will never ever
get those pipe smoking bacon eating cardiac arresting red necks to vote for
him. Because they are in a different century than us, namely 1800s. (Rights
to bear arms, no tax, minimal government, hatred towards gay people and
obdurate and systemic ignorance of science, sound too much like middle ages)
The rights are a group of stubborn imbecilic gun toting thugs, and you can'
t reason with them or win them over.
And I'm glad he may have come to that realization, albeit a little late, but
better late than never.

发帖数: 4174 | 8 分析的很对。另外一方面，我从来不介意被民主党利用，只要他们还为我们做事。我们
越有利用价值，说明平权的希望越大。POLITICIANS是商人，不是亲人。所以要会和他
们讨价还价，而不是WHINNING没有得到他们的真爱。动机不重要，结果才是重要的。
