Two versions are being circulated of what happened on a Southwest plane
before Uh Huh Her band mates Leisha Hailey and Camila Grey were ejected.
Southwest Airlines claims that profane language, not a public kiss, was the
reason the couple were kicked off a flight from El Paso, Texas, to Los
Angeles Sunday. The women claim it was a homophobic overreaction to "one
modest kiss."
A statement from the airline said it wasn't a public display of affection
that led to the couple being ejected from the flight, but their language.
The airline said today that it has reports from customers and employees who
witnessed what happened that "now confirm profane language was being used
loudly by two passengers." The statement claims at least one family found
the profanity offensive and moved to another area of the cabin.
"We do not tolerate discrimination against anyone for any reason," the
statement reads. "In this situation, their removal was directly and solely
related to the escalated conversation that developed onboard the aircraft."
Hailey, who starred on The L Word for six seasons, tweeted shortly after the
incident that a flight attendant told them the airline was a “family”
business and that they had to stop kissing. She later tweeted that they were
removed from the flight.
Hailey and Grey released a joint statement through the Gay and Lesbian
Alliance Against Defamation after the news broke about the on-flight flap,
and said they were kicked off the plane for "one modest kiss," not a make-
out session or anything else. They claim to have footage of the incident
that followed the kiss, but it has not yet been released.
"We were on the airplane less than 5 minutes when all was said and done,"
the couple said in a statement. "We take full responsibility for getting
verbally upset with the flight attendant after being told it was a 'family
airline.' We were never told the reason the flight attendant approached us,
we were only scolded that we 'needed to be aware that Southwest Airlines was
a family oriented airline.'"
According to Southwest, the company has reached out to extend an offer for a
refund. | D**S 发帖数: 24887 | 2 Despite the reality of this occurrence, it is widely known that Southwest
DOES "value" itself for being a family-friendly airline. You go figure! I
took Southwest flights rather frequently until about half year ago but since
have basically abandoned it, not exactly for the "family-oriented" factor,
but because its frequent flier program got recently downgraded too much for
my need. Now this decision seems justified anyway. |
