庆祝的是,其纪录片《Wish Me Away》也拿下了Out on Film(亚特兰大最大LGBT电影节
Michael Stipe
(Clyde Tolson,
Conan O’Brien)
(Sara Ramirez)
American Horror Story)

As 2011 draws to a close, PinkNews.co.uk takes a look back at the most
important stories of the last twelve months.
This year saw real change around the world when it came to LGBT rights. Many
political milestones were reached, but as some countries progressed, other
states faced international criticism for attempts to restrict their citizens
’ rights.
10 – 66 boys in Malaysia sent to “gay cure” camp
A Terengganu state official said in April that 66 boys aged between 13 and
17 were identified by teachers as having “effeminate mannerisms”. They
were sent on a “self-development course” in the hope of dissuading them
from being gay.
9 – Anton Hysen became the world’s only openly gay professional footballer
Anton Hysen became the only professional footballer in the world to come out
as gay in March of this year. He said frankly: “I am a footballer. And gay
. If I perform as a footballer, then I do not think it matters if I like
girls or boys.”
8 – Lesbian couple save 40 teenagers in Norway
Toril Hansen and Hege Dalen were dining on the shores opposite Utoya when
the Norwegian island became the scene of a horrific massacre. When they
heard shots, the couple got in their boat and started towards the island.
They rescued 40 teenagers over four trips, as Anders Breivik fired on their
boat.
7 – Australia’s Labor Party changes its platform to support equal marriage
In early December, the Australian Labor Party voted to officially endorse
marriage equality, though Prime Minister Julia Gillard says she does not
support the move. Despite the platform change, equal marriage remains some
way off passing through the Australian parliament, many of whom oppose such
a move.
6 – Belgium gets Europe’s first gay male leader
Elio Di Rupo was named the new, openly gay, Prime Minister of Belgium, after
the country went a year and a half without a government. Di Rupo becomes
the second gay leader of a European country, and the first gay male leader.
5 – Poland’s first gay and trans MPs are sworn in
Poland swore in its first gay and transgender MPs this year. Anna Grodzka
said she aimed to seek equal rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans
people. Robert Biedron, the first openly gay MP,campaigned in favour of
legalising abortion, gay marriage and marijuana use.
4 – Ghana’s minister orders the arrest of all gays
In a further example rights abuses sanctioned at state level, this summer, a
Ghanaian minister ordered the arrest of all gays and lesbians in the
country’s Western Region. Paul Evans Aidoo directed the Bureau of National
Investigations and other agencies to find gay people and bring them before
the courts, and called on private citizens to turn gay people in.
3 – 250,000 people condemn St Petersburg’s “gay propaganda” law
A quarter of a million people signed a petition calling on world leaders to
hold Russia to account for a draft law in St Petersburg, which threatens to
silence its gay community. The draft law would fine the promotion of
homosexuality alongside the promotion of paedophilia.
2 – UK says it will direct aid away from governments who fail to recognise
gay rights
The government confirmed plans this year to redirect aid away from overseas
governments who fail to recognise human rights, but has said it will still
ensure aid reaches those in need.
The move was described as “satanic” by Robert Mugabe, and Ghana said it
would “never support” the legalisation of homosexuality amid fiery
reactions to the news and concerns that gays would be blamed for cuts in aid.
1 – The UN passes its first-ever resolution on gay rights
The UN Human Rights Council passed a historic resolution in June, calling
for universal rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people. It was the
first time the body had passed a resolution which focused specifically on
sexual orientation and gender identity, effecting its 193 member states.
In December, the UN’s Human Rights Council published its first ever report
detailing rights abuses against LGBT people around the world, through
violence and discriminatory laws, and a benchmark set of recommendations all
countries should adopt to protect their citizens.

The top USA LGBT stories of 2011
http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2011/12/26/the-top-usa-lgbt-stories-o
10 – High profile figures come out as gay
In October, the Star Trek actor Zachary Quinto came out as gay. On his blog,
Quinto wrote that the recent suicide of gay 14-year-old Jamey Rodemeyer had
spurred him to be open.
Don Lemon, the CNN anchorman who appears in 100 million US homes also came
out at the age of 45, and spoke to PinkNews.co.uk’s Laurence Watts about
the experience. Lemon’s biography was dedicated to Tyler Clementi, who
killed himself in 2010 after a video of him having sex with another man was
allegedly broadcast by his university room mate.
9 – New York actor says the way the state treats him means he cannot serve
on a jury
Actor and model Jonathan D Lovitz, was waiting to be called in with other
jurors when they were all asked whether they could be impartial. On the spur
of the moment, Lovitz said, he told the court: “Since I can’t get married
or adopt a child in the state of New York, I can’t possibly be an
impartial judge of a citizen when I am considered a second class one in the
eyes of this justice system.”
8 – Justin Bieber shares his views on homosexuality
The Canadian teen pop sensation was 16 when he was interviewed by Rolling
Stone in what was to become one of the most discussed stories of the year.
While Bieber expressed some liberal sentiment in his approach to gays, he
also referred to being gay as a “decision”. He also told the magazine he
believed abortions, including those following a pregnancy caused by rape,
were always wrong.
7 – Sally Kern reminds America gays are “more dangerous than terrorists”
Speaking just before the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks,
Republican member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives Sally Kern
renewed her claim that homosexuality has killed more people in the United
States than terrorism.
Kern’s views almost formed a self-fulfilling prophecy when she said she
feared for her life after the response she had received from gay rights
supporters.
6 – The death of Jamey Rodemeyer
In September, 14-year-old Jamey Rodemeyer killed himself after suffering
homophobic bullying. He had blogged regularly about being taunted at school
and messages were left on his Formspring account calling him “gay and ugly
” and encouraging him to kill himself.
In November, local police said no charges would be faced by those who had
allegedly bullied the teenager.
Lady Gaga called for a “law for Jamey” to ban bullying, saying: “I am
meeting with our president. I will not stop fighting. This must end. Our
generation has the power to end it.”.
She later announced the launch of the Born This Way Foundation.
5 – Obama supports the Respect for Marriage Act
While individual states can introduce their own marriage legislation, the
Defense of Marriage Act means the federal government only recognises
marriages as being between a man and a woman. President Barack Obama had
announced as far back as February that he wanted the state to stop defending
the law, and in July voiced his support for the Respect for Marriage Act,
which would see it struck down.
4 – The state of New York introduces gay marriage
After long negotiations in the New York this summer, the state senate voted
33-29 in favour of becoming the sixth US state to legalise gay marriage. New
York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg officiated at the marriage of two of his
aides at the Gracie Mansion on the shores of the East River. In August,
officials estimated that gay couples were making up a quarter of all
marriage applications.
3 – The debate over Proposition 8 continues in California
The battle for gay marriage in California took more turns this year as
challenge followed challenge in the courts. In September, the state’s
supreme court ruled that anti-gay marriage group ProtectMarriage may defend
the ban on gay marriage in court.
The same sponsors recently attempted to disqualify the decision of a federal
judge, Vaughn Walker, because he did not declare that he was gay when he
overturned the state’s gay marriage ban last year.
2 – Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell officially repealed
The ban known as Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, which allowed gays and lesbians to
serve in the military if they kept their sexual orientation a secret, came
to an end in September.
It was passed in 1993 during Bill Clinton’s presidency, and was seen as a
compromise on the issue.
A statement to troops said: “The law is repealed. From this day forward,
gay and lesbian soldiers may serve in our Army with the dignity and respect
they deserve.”
1 – Obama administration announces the US will take gay rights into account
in matters of foreign policy
In December, instructions issued by the Obama administration called for the
first time on US government agencies to consider gay rights when deciding
aid and asylum cases.
Hillary Clinton delivered a groundbreaking speech to a United Nations summit
in Geneva following the US’ declaration that its agencies will challenge
the criminalisation of gay acts and LGBT identity overseas.
She said: “Some seem to believe it is a western phenomenon and therefore
people outside the west have grounds to reject it.
“Well, in reality gay people are born into and belong to every society in
the world.
“They are all ages, all races, all faiths, they are doctors and teachers,
farmers and bankers, soldiers and athletes.
“Whether we know it, whether we acknowledge it, they are our family, our
friends and our neighbours.
“Being gay is not a western invention, it is a human reality.”

in his 1899 work Two Tahitian Women.
9 – George Michael says the gays on Eastenders are scaring children
George Michael employed some pretty colourful language in his critique of
the gay characters on soap opera Eastenders.
The musician took to Twitter to say the BBC drama was “scaring the shit out
of children”, with one being repeatedly beaten up and another disowned by
his Muslim family.
8 – 19 stone rugby player suffers stroke and “wakes up gay”
A rugby player who suffered a stroke after a gym accident woke up gay and
became a hairdresser, he said this year. Chris Birch said “It sounds
strange but when I came round I immediately felt different [...] I was
definitely gay.”
7 – World’s first gay beer launched
A beer believed to be the first specifically marketed to gay consumers was
launched in Mexico, Colombia and Japan in February of this year.
Distributors said they had “great respect with the idea of offering a
product directed to the gay-lesbian community that has been ignored for too
long but is important and very demanding”.
6 – Anti-gay US politician was a secret sperm donor to lesbians
An American politician who has campaigned against gay marriage was revealed
to be a sperm donor to lesbian couples in Australia. Bill Johnson’s wife
could not conceive, so he turned to sperm donation because he believed
reproduction was “as basic a human need as eating”. He had not told his
wife.
5 – 5,000 year old “transgender” skeleton found in Prague
Archaeologists in the Czech Republic dug up what they believed to be the
remains of a 5,000-year-old transgender person in April. The male skeleton,
from between 2900 and 2500BC is from the Corded Ware culture of the Copper
Age, and was buried as a woman.
4 – Belgian footballer comes out and becomes a gay porn star
While the professional footballing world suffers a dearth of out gay players
, Jonathan de Falco, formerly of Racing Mechelen and Oud-Heverlee Leuven,
took coming out to another level by launching a career in gay porn.
3 – Thomas Jane used to “let a guy buy him a sandwich”
In October, Thomas Jane, the star of HBO series ‘Hung’, revealed he worked
as a male prostitute when he first arrived in Hollywood: “I wasn’t averse
to going down to Santa Monica Boulevard and letting a guy buy me a sandwich
. Know what I mean?”
2 – Toronto Zoo’s gay penguins are forced to separate, then one turns
straight
Buddy and Pedro seemed to capture the imagination of the world this year,
when Toronto Zoo announced it had to separate the ‘gay’ penguins as part
of a breeding programme. We were thrilled to hear the pair would be “
reunited in the spring”.
But the story did not end there. In December, Buddy, the older of the two,
found a new, female, mate.
1 – US woman too “disgusted by gays” to leave the house
If you are out and about this Christmas, spare a thought for Stacy Trasancos
, a Massachusetts woman who said this year she was too “disgusted” by gays
to leave her home.
The stay-at-home mother of seven said she was “outnumbered” by gays. On
her blog, she said she knew “what would happen if I asked two men or two
women to stop displaying, right in front of me and my children, that they
live in sodomy”.
