I decided to write several chapters since I feel I have too much to say-:)
My last Marathon was in Dec. last year, for which I feel really sad. Not
only because of the time, more because I thought I lost my conscious after
about the half mark...
At the beginning of this year, tuoniao suggested me to try the low heart
training, which I only did a very short time since I found I almost had to
walk to have my heart rate lower than 150...I almost cried through the way
to finish a 10 mile since I was mostly walking, and then Asura told me I
should at least have fun. From then on, I still used HR monitor but did not
care too much about the absolute data. I run my first 5k (22:49:12 in Feb.)
and then a second HF(1:49:54 in March). The pace for the half turned out to
be my required BQ pace and I did not expect that at all.
I could not decide my race time even in May since I was still waiting for
something that I have dreamed for a long time. Fortunately, the dream became
true in May and I started my run in South CA. I firstly lived in Caltech
student apartment, and there are many mornings as I run on the purple
Jacaranda flowers, I kept asking myself: am I still in my dream -:) Later on
I moved to a place close to a trail and I climbed the mountain in the
mornings at the beginning and later on went to the mountain about sunset
time. I remembered the encouragement I got from the red flowers opening
beside the rocks on the middle-top of the mountain, on the day I almost got
crazy to hear people talking about green card and citizenship. At that
moment I told myself that I will just enjoy the journey I chose.
During this pre-training phase, I was very fortunate to run with whx, baiji,
and wolfstar. From the run with whx, I learned how creative you can be for
a run and maybe more importantly, I started to like track work, especially
Yasso-800 which almost became my date-:). In the summer, when I run with
baiji the first time on a trail, at the end of the run I realized that I
have seen the scene before since he posted some pictures about the trail
earlier this year. Well, I never thought I would run that trail when I saw
the pictures-:) Better than that, I run a 18 mile with baiji another time,
and again did not think he would like to run a Marathon with me. Well, life
is interesting because it is a box of chocolate-:)

I got side stitch at that time and I was only struggling to finish. And I
did not know how I finished...

I had some doubts about LHR training back in Sept. but now I am convinced
that it really works, at least for a lot of runners. I was surprised that
completing a 20-mile run wasn't that hard at all and that my legs actually
felt quite fresh after one night of sleep.
Keep running, you will BQ for sure before long, and I think you will even
make sub 3:30 within a year or two.
A female Japanese marathoner once said "the miles I ran will never betray me
".
Many a days during my lonely training runs when I felt bored or discouraged,
the mere thought of that statement and what I wanted to accomplish carried
me on and on.

hard work paid off. You definitely will BQ in next race
