p********l 发帖数: 2032 | 1 Mental Mathematics @ UCSD: Children’s Competition using Chinese Abacus
The purpose of this competition is to provide an opportunity to see first-
hand the magic of the Chinese traditional math philosophy as well as its
amazing academic outcome when children are taught how to use an Abacus.
These kids are able to do more advanced calculations and more remarkably,
they are able to do mental math at a speed which could beat the computer.
This technique is not taught in local city schools.
Mental Mathematics is a short name of Abacus Calculation and Mental
Mathematics, also called Abacus and Brain Rapid Calculation. Its function is
to translate Arabic numbers into Abacus beads in the brain and to follow
the rules of Abacas Calculation to complete different calculations. Mental
Mathematics has perfectly combined Chinese traditional abacus calculation
and figurative memory to get the calculation outcome based on brain pictures
(playing abacus in your mind). It is a good way to explore human potential
and to train children the ability of quick reaction.
UCSD Shenmo Mental Math Association and Helpyoulearn LLC are proud to
sponsor the first annual 2011 Shenmo Mental Math Competition on Nov. 20th,
2011 at the UCSD Price Center East-Ball Room from 14:30-17:00. Thirty kids,
5 to 7 years old, from San Diego Doyle Park Recreation Center, Happy do Arts
Institute and Golden Dragon Kung-Fu Institute are going to compete. These
kids are able to do five two-digit number calculations using the Chinese
traditional math tool- Abacus.
At this FREE event, parents, professors, local educators, press are invited
to witness this important moment. For more information please contact: Xiuli
