1, Q: Why are you here? What are you protesting for?
A: I’m here to protest Kimmel’s irresponsible comments on ABC Kid’s
talk show regarding killing “everyone in China”. We strongly believe
that Joking about killing is not a joke. And, more important is that
it's extremely WRONG to teach kids to kill in this show. We are very
concerned about this fact that many kids are involved in this malicious
program.
2,Q: I believe ABC and Mr. Kimmel have already issued a public apology.
Why are you still doing this/What do you expect from ABC or Kimmel?
A: I’m aware of that. But they insisted that it was just a joke, I don’t
see
his sincerity there. He’s just trying to get away with that. I would like
to
see an official apology from ABC admitting its wrong doing and
negligence. Killing people is No joke. It's serious.
3, Q: Some people said you Chinese might be too sensitive. It's just a
night show and Mr. Kimmel is just a comedian. What is your comment
on that?
A1: Well, jokes ought to have some sense and bottom line. I wouldn’t
think joking on killing is a proper way to make people laugh. And
personally, I believe joke, a lot times, tells an inner feeling and truth
of a person.
A2: Yes, it's a night show however Mr. Kimmel invited many kids to be
there to have this Kids' Round Table. Do you think it should be a program
requires parent guiding? No, it's supposed to be a kids-friendly program.
What do you think if a kid say he will kill somebody in a school if you are
a teacher? If you were a teacher, would you think it's just a joke and do
nothing? No way, the parents must be called immediately and the kids
must be sent back home immediately. Do you think our public school
system are too sensitive and lack of the sense of humor?
4. Q: It wasn’t Kimmel who said killing, it was a child. Do you think you
should take it so seriously?
A: True. To me it was already irritating that a 5, 6-year old child could
make such inflammatory remarks. But what concerned me more is that,
Kimmel, as a host, didn’t stop or intervene immediately, and ABC, aired
it. This is entirely inappropriate and offensive to other ethnic groups,
even in a comedy venue.
5, Q: We like the show but you protested to close his show. Don’t you think
it’s too much? It’s like throwing the baby with the bath water.
A: It’s Kimmel and ABC’s decision to close that segment. I would only say,
if you cannot prevent this sort of incidents from happening, and if a host
doesn’t have the capability to manage the scene, then better go with
something else.
6,Q: What's your goal for today's protest?
A1: Like I said, I would like to see an official apology from ABC admitting
its negligence by airing racial insensitive messages.
A2: We believe we are all in one love society and believe everybody share
the same concern with us if they know all the truth. We are here to express
our concern and hope we could get more diversified supporters.
7.Q: In US, comedy shows joking on violence and other affairs are pretty
common here because we have freedom of speech. What do you think?
I’m glad that here we enjoy the freedom of speech, but media should have
its social responsibility. It is obviously a wrong doing to promote violence
and hatred in speech. Even worse, they destruct the value systems of
children. |
