A Redwood City woman performed a rare feat recently when she gave birth to
naturally conceived quadruplets at Stanford University's Lucile Packard
Children's Hospital, a hospital spokesman said today (Tuesday).
New mom Samantha Weng gave birth to the four baby girls on Oct. 21 and is
now getting ready to take them home, hospital spokesman Robert Dicks said.
Two of the babies are identical twins, which makes the quadruplets all the
more unique.
"It's hard to know the exact odds, but it's at least one in a million,"
obstetrician Jane Chueh said.
It's too early to determine whether the other two girls are also identical
twins. If they are, the odds would be closer to one in eight million, Dicks
said.
"If all four girls are identical, the odds would be one in 11 million or
more," Chueh said.
The babies' father, Wayne Wang, and Weng have been preparing their home for
Audrey, Emma, Natalie and Isabelle's homecoming, Dicks said.
"You can never plan for something as big and wonderful as this," Wang said.
"No matter how much we try to map everything out, we expect the girls to
throw us a lot of curves."
After a high-risk pregnancy, the girls were born 14 weeks early, said Chueh,
who performed the cesarean section on Weng.
"It's normal for them to be premature, most high-order multiple births are
premature but to varying degrees," Dicks said.
Weighing less than two pounds each, the girls were transferred to Packard's
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
"I was really worried about them," Weng said. "It was pretty shocking, even
though we knew what to expect. They were so tiny and with all those tubes."
Now, after three months in intensive care, the girls are happy, healthy and
are getting ready to head home, Dicks said.
"It was a very emotional experience for everyone, and we're thrilled with
the outcome," Chueh said.

第一次做父母，而且又是四胞胎的心情是什麼？「餵奶，換尿布；餵奶，換尿布，餵完
換完再接下一個，感覺每天要換好多好多尿布。」獲得四胞胎的台灣移民王俊明，11
日和太太翁于婷在史丹福派克兒童醫院會見記者時，表達他對照顧四胞胎的感受。王俊
明說：「我現在要開始找廂型車（Van）了，普通汽車還沒法同時載四個嬰兒。」
王俊明翁于婷夫婦獲四胞也只能用「驚喜」二字來形容。翁于婷懷孕時去檢查，被診斷
是子宮外孕，接下來的幾次檢查，從一胞胎，到二胞胎，直到四胞胎。翁于婷說：「真
的是每檢查一次超音波就多一個。」
王俊明表示，當醫師說看到超音波中是雙胞胎時，兩人都很高興，在接下來的檢查中又
多了一個，「還是蠻開心的，多一個就多一個，」王俊明還記得當天開車回家時，心裡
很興奮「哇，三胞胎！」因為打破夫妻雙方家裡都有雙胞胎的紀綠。
醫師勸告三胞胎生產要小心，於是轉到史丹福派克兒童醫院，到醫院之前還在開玩笑，
「每作一次檢查就多一個，不要到了兒童醫院又多一個，」果然到兒童醫院檢查之後，
「又多一個。」夫妻倆還真的有點震驚，王俊明說：「從來沒想到自己會是四胞胎的父
親。」
翁于婷在懷胞26周之後，因為羊水流出，在醫師的建議下，於2010年10月21日剖腹生下
四千金。由於早產，醫院在最初幾周將四千金放在加護病房照顧，直到11日才公開。四
千金的名字分別是：Andrey，Emma，Natalie，Isabelle；王俊明和翁于婷說，還沒時
間取中文名。
負責接生及照顧的醫師闕文真表示，早產若在23周之前，都有危險；翁于婷在26周早產
，加上醫院看護，四位千金都很健康。史丹福醫院11日公佈數據，全美國每年約有350
到400對四胞胎，約在每72萬9000次的生產中，才會有一次四胞胎。
在銀行上班的王俊明，於太太住院期間，幾個月來每天都在醫院睡硬冷的臨時床，現在
仍然每天到醫院陪伴四千金。院方表示，在月底前四位嬰兒都可以回家。王俊明表示和
太太都是在美國長大，不會一定要生男生女，「男孩女孩都好，都是我的孩子。」王俊
明表示，原本夫妻倆預定只要生三個。
