detect radiation if there is no particle. For example, if we are in a dental
office, and put a GeigerMonitor on the chair for it to receive an X-ray, it will
report radiation, but the radiation material (radiation source) is contained in this X-ray situation. Radiation fallout from Japan, on the other hand, is not contained.
The news did say radiation material was detected in Sacramento today http://www.fox40.com/news/headlines/ktxl-radiation-detected-in-sacramento-levels-not-harmful-20110318,0,3100311.story , so although the radiation level is very low and not harmful to people, those material is here, in the air and not contained. I guess if one breath or eat them in, it could be harmful. And this makes me worry a lot! Also the radiation cloud will keep coming until the day Japan contains all of its leak!
Good thing is that I-131 has a 8 day half-life, so it eventually would decay.
The scary thing is Fukujima #3 reactor has Plutonium which is extremely
poisonous, I am afraid some of P-239 particle may already released into the
air with the explosion happened several days ago which may went up to be
part of the radiation cloud that could reach other part of the world.
Correction: I just saw the following post from "Spinoffle", his post mentioned Plutonium is a much heavy metal and would not go up to the cloud and cross the ocean, that would be great news!!! :D
I searched and indeed Plutonium has atomic number 94 which is on the very heavy side.
Iodine (I-131) atomic number 53
Caesium (Cs-137) atomic number 55
Plutonium (P-239) atomic number 94 | A*******n

给你辐射。不过如果专家的计算都准确的话，无论辐射还是放射性物质对美国都不会造
