Calif. highway closed because of landslide

MONTEREY, Calif.—The California Highway Patrol says a section of Highway 1
in
Monterey County is closed after a portion of saturated roadway washed away.
Authorities say that the closure came after 40-foot stretch of the highway
slid down a hillside shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday in an area called
Hurricane Point following several days of heavy rains.
Caltrans closed several miles of the road south of Garrapata State Park and
posted signs warning motorists about the washout, the San Francisco
Chronicle
reported.
The Monterey Times Herald reports that CHP said the highway could be closed
"potentially several days if not longer.
No injuries were reported. | l**t
