Please don't be so hard on them. They have to justify their existence or
they would be out of work. What I love is the incredible "spare the night"
orders when no smog can form at night. Wood smoke is one of Mother Natures
most natural particulates and is readily cleaned from the air. After all,
she's had several billion years to figure out how to do it. Wood smoke
particles are also some of the largest and readily expelled from the lungs(
unlike cigarette or pot smoke). We evolved in a wood smoke environment. All
of our lung cleaning processes evolved to work with the common air pollutant
/only air pollutant of those times, wood smoke.
But I say again, how do they justify their salaries if they don't make up
new number to be met. Remember at one time they set the standards for
emissions from automobile tailpipes that exceeded the cleanliness of the air
being sucked into the engine. So, at one time it was your duty to drive
that car all over the valley to extract the pollutants from the air as it
helped to burn the gasoline.
So if we ever meet the standards set, they arbitrarily set them lower, tax
our fuel, tax our mileage, tax our electricity to "fight" air polution. . .
of which there was none, until the set the allowable levels lower. . .again!
