CERN reported a few days ago that their scientists have
created a new state of matter that is similar to the state
our universe was in within micro-seconds of the big bang.
Basically they created a state where only quarks and glueons
exist.
Can anyone shed some light on that?
Also a hypothetic question: can humans ever creat a sub-universe
within our universe through, for example, a man-made big bang?
how? and if we can, can we observe and communicate with that

for the quark gluon plasma, you can go to CERN webpage for more
infomation. Just look for experiment NA45, NA49, NA50. or go to RHIC
homepage (a experiment in Brookhaven National Lab).
in simple word, quark matter is just to deconfine the quarks from
hadron volume to the extended volume of the entire atomic nucleus.
Now there are some stong hint that quark gluon plasma exists at
high energy density(T>>T_sun).
They count the number of the J/psi particles produced in the lead-lead
collision(NA50)

thanks for the very informative explanation on the experiments. I need to
go to CERN to read for myself.
when you say that "the origin of the big bang is not clear at all",
do you mean that we don't have a theory to describe how/why the
big bang happened? thus, it is not clear if a big bang can be
manufactured at all?
On the tunneling, if it is possible, what would happen to a monkey
if we tunnel it to a universe where laws of physics are different? for
example, if in the target universe carbon

I am a lay person here. What i mean is i have not heard of any
sound theory of the origin of big bang. A possible solution is given
by superstring theory. Suppose we are living in a 10-D universe and
six of them curled up into torus or loop or whatever so tiny that
probing them is practically impossible currently. "Before" the big bang
the other six dimensions are open and it is another perfect universe
maybe homogenous, maybe isotopic, i don't know. And the four dimension
we are living in curl
