so, why they would want a high-level report to a low-level? i am still not
sure the true intention.

发帖数: 349 | 6 有时候是因为那个ic自己不愿意当human manager花时间在开会管人上。
这种情况dev更常见，以前有dev manager说他多年以来手底下都有人比他级别高。

除了上面的讲说有可能那个 high-level IC 不想做 lead 外, 还有另一个可能就是那
个 high-level IC 的 reputation 不好, 所以上面的不想直接管.

letter says i will report to a group pm lead, now my lead told me i need to
report to a "program manager II", which is at least 2 levels below me... i
am now considering quitting... :(
any advice?

Partner 变 IC 也不见得是降级.
两个没有冲突.
可能只是工作性质改了.
除非从 partner level 变成 non-partner level.

tell whether that's acceptable or not.
Minimally you should have a conversation with not your lead, but the one
above him. As if you are reporting to someone lower level than you, career
growth is going to be limited. Since it sounds like you are getting into
Principle level next.
