发帖数: 707 | 1 A 30-year-old man was stabbed on the sidewalk by a stranger on Sunday while
visiting downtown Seattle with his family, police said.
Officers responded to the scene, at the corner of Third Avenue and Pine
Street, at about 2:50 p.m. after receiving 911 calls from multiple witnesses
who saw the unprovoked attack.
The bizarre incident began as the victim, his mother and other family
members were riding a Metro bus to downtown Seattle.
As the bus traveled north on Third Avenue, another man on board the bus
began harassing the victim and then poured beer on him, police said.
When the bus arrived at the victim's stop, at Pine Street, he hurried to get
his mother and the rest of his family off the bus and away from the
suspect.
As the bus doors opened, the suspect followed the victim and his family off
the bus and then instigated a physical altercation with the victim on the
sidewalk.
Just north of Third and Pine, the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed the
victim at least twice before fleeing the scene on foot, said Seattle Police
Detective Jeff Kappel.
Officers found the fleeing suspect and arrested him near Fourth Avenue and
Olive Way. A folding knife with a 3 1/2-inch blade was found in the suspect'
s pocket and booked into evidence.
The 30-year-old victim, who lives in the Seattle area, was rushed to
Harborview Medical Center.
At least one of the stab wounds was in the victim's abdomen. Fire officials
described the injuries as serious but not life-threatening.
Kappel said the incident was "tragic."
"It was really tragic for the victim and his family, who were just trying to
be downtown and enjoy a beautiful summer day," he said.
The 38-year-old suspect was transported to Harborview by ambulance for
treatment of cuts to his hand he sustained while stabbing the victim.
The suspect is under guard and will be booked into the King County Jail for
investigation of assault when he is released from the hospital.
