现在在中西部一个老大僵死的retailer做个director.收入不到200k. 小弟现在有14年
工作经验。director level也做了6年，国内top2，美国top5MBA背景。请教大家：
1. Amazon 的senior manager 的职位的含金量是不是很高？是不是值得放弃现在的
director title来做这个？对于career development是不是明智？
2。 amazon 内部的文化怎么样？office政治斗争是不是激烈？
3。amazon 内部的work life balance怎么样？

的...
1. Sr. Manager vs. Director title...每个公司豆油自己的hierarchy. 比如, Dell
的Director, 到了Amazon一般都是Sr. Manager. 微软的有些Sr. Manager, 其实就是比
较Senior 的Individual Contributor, 到了Amazon, 其实应该比你的这个Sr. Manager
还要低两级. 怎么比, 总的年收入就是一个很好的indicator. 如果你能拿到$250K, 可
能和中西部的$200K略微持平或好一点.不过话说回来, 有个Director title找工作时比
Sr. Manager有优势... 因为HR不怎么懂, 筛选简历时,大多只拿title比.
2. Sr. Manager应该还算干具体事的. 只要拼命干肯定能出成绩. 干好了1-3年再往上
就是Director. Amazon对这种级别的expectation非常高. 出不了成绩,走人是很简单的
事. 可以在linkedin上搜一下prior company是Amazon的director, 就可以大概了解怎
么回事.政治斗争,哪都有.相比其他公司, Amazon算是比较少的. 唯一不好就是烙印现
在越来越多.
3. 这个就不用说了,work就是你的life. 运气好(<5%概率), 可能还能谈的上有work
life balance.
简单总结一下, 如果你现在的工作很稳定, 可能不动比较好.如果过去5年公司有裁员,
跳到这个Sr. Manager职位比较好.

我觉得去Amazon比去零售发展好，但是SM的Title偏低了，现在Amazon对Fresh MBA给的
都是SM的Title，只是Pay没有那么高。能不能和Amazon交涉一下Title的事情？ |

发帖数: 590 | 9 Amazon的Sr Manager跟一般公司的Sr Manager可不一样，Amazon的Sr Manager很难做到
， 我感觉。不要说manager了，我感觉在Amazon想当个senior developer都挺难的，
不像别的公司，senior title的人一窝一窝的，Amazon的senior title含金量还是想当
大的。当然我也不是Amazon的，只是个人感觉。
不过楼主都到了这个level的人了，跟我等一帮卢瑟根本不是一个阶级的了，怎么还会
到这上面来问问题，让我觉得很吃惊。

不过如果Amazon的Senior Manager Total compensation也就二十多万的话，周扒皮的
名声的确不假。hehe.

刚从msft跳过去的level 66的principal manager，说Amazon是累，不过money-wise他
实在没啥可以抱怨的。
下层的sde们确实被剥削的可以。

我听说亚马逊有Senior Manager, 也有Principal Manager.
Senior Manager就是Senior level的.
package应该是200K to 300K.

Yes, all these titles look confusing.
Senior Dev manager = Level 7(Principal Level) = Principal Dev manager in
MSFT
Dev manager = SDE lead in MSFT, could be Level 6 (Senior level) or Level 5.
Senior Product Manager = Level 6 = Senior in MSFT..
To make resume look pretty, some Level-6 manager listed themself as Senior-
Manager in Linkedin.

That "experience" doens't matter when deciding his/her new compensation.
What matters is his/her current compensation at the current company. Most of
the times the new company has to beat the current compensation, but not
much more.

I thought there is a Senior level, and there is a Principal level.
All those Senior manager/dev manager/engineer/product manager fall in the

发帖数: 168 | 26 Actually "Principal Dev manager" is called "Senior Dev Manager" in Amazon.
He want to use "Principal" to state his level (7) in Amazon.
But senior dev/engineering manager is in Level 7 (Principal). They are
usually in charge of an engineering team of 20-50 people.
Senior Product managers are in Level 6. They are actually ICs and don't have
any direct reports usually.
Sigh.....Every time I discuss it with friends, I feel it a long way ahead...

这是当了十几年码工苦力熬出来的
而且AFGM等公司都是搞技术的拿的多
象Michigan这种top school里的烂校的MBA在微软的offer,可能跟一个Fresh Master的
码工拿的差不多, 或者少一些
发贴的这位老大搞的是business
虽说金融危机已经结束,但是找这类工作的情况是僧多粥少, 而且级别越高就越难找.
你要他跟AFGM中任何一家狮子大开口要$400k, 基本就是下面两种结果:
1. 碰到比较nice的,会educate你,reset你的expectation
2. 碰到没耐心的, 认为你不可理喻,直接withdraw offer.

the level /title does not fit my past track records, but I am still highly
interested in further opportunities with the organization. |

this opportunity to know more about them? Since it occurs to me you
obviously have an interest in this company and there may other positions
suitable for you, or at least you can bargain better after that.

phone call from amazon this morning and they invited me to apply another
position which has a director title. I will keep you guys posted about the
progress.
