For the November 5 general election, you need to register to vote online by
Oct 7 or in-person by Oct 28. Once you register, you will receive voter
pamphlet (with bio and info on each candidate) as well as the ballot
sometime in late October. And then you'll send in the ballot with your vote
by mail before Nov 5.
Here's a link to register and with timeline:

First, this link gives a bio of My-Linh.

Reasons for support My-Linh:
1. The board's composition does not reflect the population of Bellevue,
which has a high % of Asians. We need to change that and My-Linh is one of
the few who is willing to step up to represent our ethnic group. As an
Asian, she has similar concerns to ours - better math education, more
traditional solid education. And the importance of education for Asians.
Her rival is big on football and went to Harvard on a football scholarship.
I am not big on football and would not like BSD to invest in football.
Would you? And when I say step up, this is a step up since this is a very
tiring and exhausting journey. If you don't have the umph, you won't last
and I can see that she is up to the challenge. It's still a white male
dominated scene. It's not easy to step up. So I admire her for her courage.
2. My-Linh volunteered tons of her time for kids in Bellevue through her
work at her daughter's school, setting up after school math club. In fact,
I was introduced to her through my friend, whose daughter and her daughter
were friends and they knew each other as parents who are concerned with math
for their kids. Unlike her rival, who has big money, she earned her vote
one by one through her actual volunteer work in the district. And earned
people's trust by talking to them and relating to them. She is the one who
introduced me to the Superintendent when I had concerns about the middle
school math adoption process. Most recently, she is participating in
revising the Somerset Parent Handbook. That's just one example of her
giving her time to the community.
3. I simply want a board member without business ties and ulterior motive
for being on the board. If you look closer at school board or city council
candidates, many have business ties and a lot of professional commercial
real estate investors. Their motive is NOT representing you.
4. Last but not the least. She is a woman. An ordinary mother that I can
relate to. And intelligent. With a personality better than my own (i.e. she
is able to work well with people of different opinions and achieve her goal
in a softer way) and yet with goals aligned with mine, understanding my
needs. What better solution there is than having her represent me?
I am rooting for her. She can represent us as constituents in the school
district. Specifically, Asian families with Asian values. I hope you all
will cast your valuable vote in the November general election for her. |
