A husband and wife died Saturday in Shoreline and a young woman died in
Renton, in what police agencies describe as unrelated cases of domestic
violence.
The Shoreline incident was a suspected murder-suicide in which a couple died
in their home.
A woman there called 911 just before 9 a.m. to report hearing two shots
fired in her Shoreline home, said Sgt. Kathleen Larson of the King County
Sheriff’s Office. The woman lived with her son, his wife and their 2-year-
old child, Larson said.
The woman told police she went downstairs after hearing the shots. She saw
her daughter-in-law on the floor, and she appeared to have been shot.
Officers took the grandmother and child safely out of the home, and found
the man and woman dead inside, Larson said.
“At this particular point it looks like it is a murder-suicide,” Larson
said Saturday afternoon.
In Renton, police found a 20-year-old woman dead in an apartment after a man
called 911 to say he killed his girlfriend.
Police say the man, 20, told dispatchers just before noon that he booby-
trapped the apartment, and that he was armed. When officers arrived, the man
ran back into the apartment building. He later emerged and surrendered,
without a struggle, police said.
Police did not say how the woman may have died. Detectives think this was a
case of domestic violence, but say the investigation is still early.
Authorities did not release names of the deceased in either incident.
Last year, 35 people in the state died from domestic violence, the lowest
figure in 17 years, according to the Washington State Coalition Against
Domestic Violence. |
