Mercer Island residents are advised to boil their tap water before drinking
after test samples collected Friday showed the presence of E. coli, said
city officials.
The test results indicated that the water may not be safe to drink.
King County Public Health officials ordered all food establishments to close
operations until the boil-water advisory is lifted. These include
restaurants, coffee shops and delis.
There have been no reports of illness.
The city's water provider is Seattle Public Utilities and officials said
aside from Mercer Island, all other SPU water is safe for drinking.
The city of Mercer Island will continue to take water samples until the
water is confirmed safe.
